12/16/06    As the year has been winding down so has Team Squid.  With the new year quickly approaching the offices have been working to revise the team charter and bylaws as well as everyone has been working on their car plans for next year.  In addition to these things we have been working on some new types of events that we can host next year.  At our January meeting we are hoping to vote on next year's schedule and though all the dates have not been decided we already decided that in addition to competing in quarter mile drag racing at Texas MotorPlex next year we will also be competing in eighth mile racing at Redline Raceway and local autocross events.

We are currently down one support vehicle because Jeremy decided to trade in his Infiniti for a slightly used Subaru Forester which has been voted on the team as a race car.  Well race SUV but don't let that fool you.  The Forester is AWD and has the same engine as the WRX which means that there are tons of upgrade possibilities for this car.  More on this project to come.

In other news my New Year's resolution is going to be to try to getting better at updating the website.  I have several new things planned and my goal is to have a little something different up every other week.  With this said there should be one more update before the end of the year.

Sorry for not getting details about last weekend's events up sooner I have not been near the computer I need to update the site.  I think I can speak for all of Team Squid when I say we had a great time.  Despite being windy we had some good weather to be stuck outside all day.  We would like to thank everyone who came out to the show.  Both those who participated and those who just came out to watch.  We also would like to thank Venom and TurboChargers.com for the awesome prizes.  In addition we want to thank Pro Tow and BMI hobbies for coming out and spending the day with us.  Pro Tow brought two cars out that everyone had a blast smashing and BMI had their RC cars out there in full force.  We would also like to thank Texas Motorplex for letting us come out and have the show and for letting BMI take a couple of cars down the track.  That is right we had two RC cars running 1/8 mile.

I am still in the process of getting all of the photos from the other members and look for a full recap of the event as well as a list of the winners next week.

Thank you all again.

For those who turned out at Squidfest 2006 you may have partaken in the car smash brought to you by Pro-Tow towing.  We are glad to announce that they will bringing a couple of cars out Texas Motorplex and once again allowing you do destroy them.  BMI Hobbies will also be out there showing you just how much fun RC cars can be.

We have some lastt minute exciting news.  We have been able obtain a Venom VCN-1000 Computerized Nitrous System.  In addition to this we have a Waste Gate and Boost Controller courtesy of TurboChargers.com.  Anyone who enters the show will automatically be entered to have a chance to win one of these prizes.

Team Squid Racing has the honor of presenting a car show at Texas Motorplex on Saturday, October 21.  This show will be held in conjunction with the taping of three episodes for Speed TV's hit show "Pinks".  The cost to get you into the show is only $15 and when you think that they are expecting over 6,000 people to pass through their gates that will be looking at your car what better exposure for your lovely car could you want?  Check out Texas Motorplex's site for complete details on the days event or check out our show page for more details regarding the car show.  Registration starts at 1 and the show will go until 9.

Stay tuned for any more details to come regarding this event.

Speaking of Texas Motorplex our Alicia Rizzo was out at the track last weekend running in the bracket series finals.  Though she got knocked out in the final day of the event she made a great showing.  Running within 1/100th of her times during time trials people quickly saw that this girl driving the only import in the competition was going to be someone to worry about.  Despite not making it to nationals she had a great time and has said that the support she received from all of the other racers was just amazing.  Everyone here at Team Squid is very proud and hope that next year we have a few more cars competing in this event.

As many of you know Team Squid held our annual show a couple of weeks ago but due to heavy rains the show did not happen as planned.  Though we all stuck around and had some fun demolishing a car we just opened the lot to anyone who wanted to come by and hang out opposed to actually holding the show.  Thank you for all of those who came out.

09/20/06

What fun would thing be without last minute changes.  We have some exciting news.  BMI Hobbies Int'l will be there after all.  Not only will they be there with a track they will also be bringing out a RC car for us to raffle off.  We hope to see you all out there.

I would also like to take a moment to announce some overdue recognition.  Alicia has qualified to compete in the NHRA Summit Bracket Finals.  She won this right by finishing as one of the top 55 drivers during the O'Reilly Bracket Series.  This event will be held on October 6-8.  Everyone on Team Squid is very proud of her and we hope that all of her fans can make it out to cheer her on.

09/17/06

Well here we are a week from our annual Squidfest car show and I have some updates for all of you.  Just a reminder the show is this Saturday; September 23 at the O'reilly Auto Parts at 531 W. Arapaho.  Rain or shine this will be the date of the show.

The first update is that BMI Hobbies Int'l had to cancel and though we will miss out on all of the RC cars we have arranged for what we all hope will be a great substitute.  We have been in talks with Pro Tow Wrecking and they have agreed to bring out a car and let everyone destroy it.  For only $1 you will be able to beat on a car.  Imagine that it is that old beater you had that died on you every time you were in a hurry or maybe it is all the frustration that your current car put you through as you worked on building it up.  Really it does not matter but it sure should be fun.

The other update is in relation to the blood drive.  For those who were at the show last year you know we teamed up with the American Red Cross but this year we have chosen to go with Carter.  They will be out there form 12-3 and we will give half price registration to anyone who donates blood.  In addition to that they will be giving away scratch off tickets were you could win up to $100.

If you wish to view the full poster with all of the details you can simply click on the banner above or you get a PDF version here.

08/22/06

If you have been following the site you may have seen that the site went down for a week a while back.  We had a server crash but I am glad to say that things are back up and on a brand new system.  Just because the site was down does not mean that Team Squid has not been hard at work.

First off we have been hard at work planning for our annual car show.  The date is September 23 and registration starts at 11.  This is later in the year then it usually it but with any luck this means that it will be cooler.  We will be back at the O'Reilly Auto Parts at 531 W Arapaho in Richardson.  We are still in the process of finishing up posters and again we are going to have some great prizes to that we are going to raffle off.  In addition to the normal festivities we have teamed up with BMI Hobbies Int'l and they are going to come out and set up an RC car track.  More details will be coming over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned.

Things have been slow coming in getting the new car pages up but we are working on it and in addition to Katya's, Andrew's 1993 Eagle Talon, page going up we have also made some changes in the plans to several of the cars.

We have another exciting piece of information to share.  Some of you may be familiar with the show "Pinks" on SpeedTV.  Well, the guys are going to be coming to Texas Motorplex on September 2nd.  They will be out there in full force with video cameras and all with the hopes of finding the best street racer.  If you are interested in participating entrance in only $10 to run your car all day.  From the time trials the guys are going to pick 16 cars to compete head to head for $10,000.  If you feel like you are up for the challenge you can even bring your title out to the track and they will try to set up a title race but do not fear because you don't have to have your car on the line to race.

05/14/06

It has been a while since there have been any updates and so here they are.  To start things off our little family has grown again.  We have two new members these days and a couple new girls too.

The new girls belong to Shawn and Robert.  Shawn is working on building a 600+ hp 300 zx and due to the magnitude of the project he has purchased a '03 WRX.  He has enjoyed this new toy so much that it was the inspiration of one of the three new Squid rants.  Robert too is working on building a monster of a 300 ZX and has run into the same problem.  While his project is being worked on he will now be driving a Camaro Z28.

In other news the annual Team Squid car show finally has a date.  It will be Saturday September 23.  Keep tuned to the site for more updates.  All that I can say is that we are working on a lot of stuff to make this our best show yet.

Alicia and I have both walked home with a few more trophies.  Check out our pages to find out what we got.  There have been several other updates which include updated bios, new pics and an awards page.

03/19/06

Last weekend (March 11-12) a bunch of us went out to Texas Motorplex.  On Saturday Bruce made his first trip out to the track in his car Anastasia and left with a first place trophy.  The finals turned out to be a Team Squid event when Bruce lined up against WillAlicia was out running too but about half way through the day she blew her ignition fuse and lost all power while going down the track.  Though we were quickly able to diagnose the problem we could not get it fixed in time for her to make it back to the line in time to make her next run.

We got Natasha fixed and headed back out on Sunday only for it to be so windy that they were limiting it to an 1/8 mile track.  Sunday we did not make as good a showing when two of our three cars red lighted and Alicia broke out with her quickest 1/8 mile time ever.

02/06/06

With the new season coming up we have all been busy working on the cars trying to have them ready for the start of the season.

We have two new rants up in their respective section.  Though many of the event schedules are out we have not yet had a chance to decide what events we are going to go to this year.  We hope to make this decision at the next team meeting and we will have it up on the calendar shortly after.  We are also in the process of planning our next car show and information regarding that will be posted as soon as the venue is decided on.

01/03/06

Happy New Year!  Let me start by saying sorry for the long delay in updates but it has now been done.

To start off let me point you to the pictures page.  Here you will find some pictures of a few of us making fools of ourselves in an attempt to collect toys for the Garden of Angels Toy Drive.  Next hop on over to the extras section.  Here you will find a new rant.  No not a Squid Rant but one written by elim.

I hope to have the start of our 2006 calendar up shortly.  In other news Team Squid has joined the Adopt a Highway program and will be doing our first trash pickup later this month.

07/15/2005

If you are new to the site feel free to look around.  As for all of you returning people I am sure you have already noticed that the site has undergone a complete face lift so just sit back and look around.  A lot has changed and there are tons of update but I am sure you will find them as you navigate the new site so I will not bother listing them all here.

06/07/2005      I have some more recognition.  Last weekend some of us went out to the track to compete in the O'Reilly Bracket Series again and this time Will brought home a trophy.  He won Runner Up in the Toyo Street Class.  In the first round he took out the points leader to continue and lost only to the new points leader.  Though not bringing home a trophy Shawn set a new record in Amanda too.

05/29/2005      A bit of overdue recognition.  A few weeks ago Alicia competed in the O'Reilly Bracket Series and is brought home two trophies.  She made Runner Up in the Diva Class and Runner Up in the Toyo Street Class.  Kyle and Will also brought home some trophies when they went out to the Big Lots-Auto Zone & Gasoline Alley Car Show.  Kyle's car Liana won Best in Class for the Open class and Will's car Abigail won Best in Class for the '00 and Up class.  Great job guys and keep them coming.

05/28/2005    Last weekend we had SquidFest 2005 and despite the 100 plus degree temperature we had a good turn out.  Pictures are available here

04/14/2005      Ok, getting back on track.  We had a meeting last night and got a log of stuff discussed, like you do at meetings.  Things we discussed:
The Car Show:  May 21st is going to be the date.  It will be at the same place and at the same time as the last one.  If you forgot, go here to see detail.
Racing:  THIS WEEKEND, April 16-17, is the O'Reilly Bracket Series out at Texas Motorplex.  We will have some people out there doing their thing so why don't you swing by and say hi.  Other than that, our next race event isn't until June and that's out in College Station at Driver's Edge.  Is't a 2 day even, and the details are here.
On a more flashier note, Lura has been working on some custom graphics for our team and our cars.  Go check her work at Godfater Grafix. On her site is information about how YOU, yes you could obtain some custom decals for you and your team.  Even if you don't buy anything, drop her a line and tell her what you think.
I think that's about it for now.  Still working on the new website and I got some broken links fixed.  As usual, stay tuned for further updates.

03/16/2005      Well.  Let me start off by apologizing for the long period of time since my last update.  I've been working on building an entirely new site and I've neglected this on.  With that said, onto more important matters:
       1.  New Members:  Everyone please welcome Sasha and her driver Robert to the team.  Sasha is a red '86 300ZX Turbo.  We have many plans in store for this one, including, but not limited to, the same front-end conversion you saw on Kimiko.  On that same note.  We all decided that Colbie was just going to take more time and money that the car was worth, with that decided, I got a new Z.  Rina is my black '84 Non-Turbo.  It just so happens that we have a turbo motor in the garage just waiting to be rebuilt.
       2.  Events:  We have a LOT of events planned this year.  However, there aren't that many in Dallas.  You can see the entire events calendar on the events page.
       3.  Our "SquidFest" car show.  We have a date set, a place to do it, and the time to prepare.  This one's going to have a twist though.  Check out the events page for more....
As you can see, we've been pretty busy here at TSR and we're only getting started.  Keep your eyes peeled for more updates.  Who knows?  You might even come here to find a brand new site.
     Until then....

12/11/2004      Ok, now I have stuff to update so I'm going to.  I finally got some pics from the car show and they're up on the events page.  This show wasn't quite as big as the last on, but we all had fun.  At our last show, we had mostly domestic cars.  This one, was mostly imports.  We hope that at our next show we'll have a good mixture of both.  We'll bave info on that, as soon as we start planning it.
On a more depressing note.  For those of you who don't know, we lost one of our girls.  On the Monday before race wars, Kyle and Carissa were involved in an accident when Carissa sucked in some water during a bad storm.  The car stpopped, and wat then struck by a Kenworth Box Truck.  Be careful out their folks, especially in the rain.

Eulogy

On October 4, 2004, at about 7:00 a.m. Carissa's new life was abruptly cut short.  Her and her driver, Kyle, were driving East on I635 through the highway gauntlet known as the "High Five."  As they neared the Greenville Ave. ext that rainy morning with the preceding car's taillights bairly visible in the blinding storm, car and driver were forced to a jarring stop by a two foot deep puddle.  her engine sucked in almost a gallon of water which immediately killed her.  As unfortunate events almost always get worse, a 40-food box truck slammed into her rear, crumpling the bumper into the back seat and skimming all parties involved another 40 yards down the road.  Truly a one of a kind car, this JDM turbo Eclipse GS never had the chance to see the track for which she was built.  We can only imagine how many victories she could have had, trophies she could have won, and little sihouettes of Carrera Turbos she could have painted on her side.  We will miss you Carissa.
With the loss of Carissa comes a new face.  I'd like everyone to meet Kyle's new partner, Liana.
